Norm had an idea that if he can catch "mackerel on line" by hand line fishing, why cant he sell Mackerel Online?!
We now sell all local wild caught freshly frozen Spanish Mackerel, Prawns, Salmon and Barramundi.
Fish Processing
We process every catch by hand into fillets and trunks, saving you time and getting your fresh fish to you as fast as possible. Streamlining the process in this way preserves the flavour and integrity of the fish. It also ensures any part of the fish we can't utilise is returned to the sea and becomes part of the food chain in the area the fish were caught.
We Are a Local Family Business
Norman Hedditch founded Taroona in 1987 out of a simple desire to fish. Now we are one of the largest Spanish Mackerel fishing businesses in the Northern Territory. Toni Hedditch is his daughter that runs our shop Mackerel Online. Staying connected to the community helps us understand your needs.
Research and Conservation Projects
Our involvement in science, conservation, and research projects with government agencies and universities helps us maintain sustainable practices and processing methods. In 2005 we helped Dr. Rik Buckworth and his team with the Spanish mackerel Genetag research project developing a new monitoring method -
genetic-based tagging for tracking fish movement and harvest rates.

Our Fleet
Taroona current owns two fishing boats; South Seas Daniela, and Rat Patrol.
Made for the South Seas where she lives and works, South Seas Daniela is a grand old lady at home in the deep offshore waters and near the coastal reefs where the Macks hang out.
Rat Patrol is a tough, scrappy, vessel that can survive in the roughest coastal waters. Her crew is known for taking the fight to the notoriously tenacious Spanish mackerel.
